I have spent the past week in Bad Ischl, Austria with my mom where we stayed in a flat her friend owns there. Austria is beautiful and I already miss the constant backdrop of spectacular mountains in every direction. I spent some time everyday sitting on the balcony of flat sketching the views of the distant mountain range ad the colourful Austrian houses which sit on the opposite side of the river. It has been a useful holiday for source material for my artwork and I went on so many different walks in the Bad Ischl area that I think I could do a painting just from my memory. I spent most of the time visiting different towns, lakes and mountains this week but I also did go to Vienna on Thursday. I have been to Austria before but I have never visited it's capital, and it did not disappoint. The architecture in this city is incredible and the cathedral is very impressive. However, I did spend most of my time looking at the artwork in several museums and art galleries. I had already planned to see the Mark Rothko exhibition which was being held a Kunsthistorisches Museum, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was also an exhibition on Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. I am going to write a separate blog post just about the art I saw in these exhibitions as there is so much to say and I just wanted to write this post as a quick overview of my visit to Austria.
