Having Fun

When painting becomes stressful, it is so important to spend a bit of time having fun by painting whatever comes naturally, and so I did this. My idea of fun painting is using colours I like and spraying the painting with lots of water to let the paint do its own thing. For me, this was a very freeing exercise and at one point I had made a painting that worked quite well. I didn't realise this at the time and painted more layers on top because I was enjoying moving colours around so much.

Below is the painting at the stage I liked and the same painting now.

I believe what makes a good painting is contrasts. Contrasts in tone, hue, shapes, direction of lines, softness and colour. Although there are aspects of this painting I would change, I do think it encompasses a lot of contrasts, which draws me in.

I'm not sure why I added this layer on top, it must've felt right at the time, and I decided to rotate the painting as I think it works better this way now.

I will continue to work on this painting and see where it goes, hopefully somewhere good!
