I visited Nant-y-Moch a week ago on my 21st birthday but it has snowed a lot since so I wanted to go again to experience it in the snow, and it was absolutely amazing. Seeing these weather conditions has made me really want to create a set of snowy landscape paintings as I haven't really had a proper go at painting snow before. It was a bit too cold to sit and sketch what I saw so I spent time looking closely at the landscape and sketching. When observing, I noticed how yellow the clouds in the sky actually were as I could only see this when comparing them to the colour of the white snow. The sheep also looked very yellow and dirty in comparison with the snow. I also payed particular attention to the colours in the snow and saw that there was almost never grey tones, and the shadowy parts of the snow were quite blue with hints of purple in some parts. This trip to Nant-y-Moch has been my favourite so far as I have never seen such a vast area of land covered in snow like this and the colour palette made me want to go back to my studio and paint what I just saw. Here are some photographs I took of this experience.
